چکیده

The experiments were carried out in an electro coagulation reactor with aluminum as sacrificial electrodes. The influence of electrolysis time, current density, pH, NaCl concentration, rotational speed of the stirrer and electrode distance on reduction of color, COD and BOD were studied in detail. From the experimental results, 25mA/cm2 current density, pH of 7, 1 g/l NaCl, 100 rpm, 28 ◦C temperature and 1.5 cm electrode distance were found to be optimum for maximum reduction of color, COD and BOD. The reduction of color, COD and BOD under the optimum condition were found to be 92%, 89% and 85% respectively. The electrode energy consumption was calculated and found to be varied from 103kWh/kg depending on the operating conditions. Under optimal operating condition such as 25mA/cm2 current density, pH of 7, 1 g/l NaCl, 100 rpm, 28 ◦C temperature and 1.5 cm electrode distance, The experimental results proved that the electro coagulation is a suitable method for treating pulp and paper plant effluents for reuse.

The electro-oxidation of lignin in Sappi Saiccor dissolving pulp mill effluent

Electro-oxidation reactions using a nickel anode were carried out on the calcium-spent liquor effluent obtained from Sappi Saiccor (formerly South African Industrial Cellulose Corporation) dissolving pulp mill as well as on ligninand lignan-type compounds previously identified in the effluent. Voltammograms were obtained for each solution in order to identify the oxidation potentials of the com...

Color and phenolic compounds reduction of Kraft Pulp Mill effluent by ozonation with some pretreatments

A study on the treatment of Kraft pulp mill effluent by ozonation alone, and by combined treatment of ozonation preceded by chemical coagulation, activated carbon adsorption or membrane filtration has been conducted. Initial effluent pH was a major factor deciding the treatment efficiency. When ozonation was conducted alone, more than 70% reduction of color and phenolic compounds could be achie...

Effect of Metal Salt Coagulants on Treatment of Activated Sludge Effluent in Sulfite Mill Pulp and Paper Plant

Pulp and paper effluents are considered as serious environmental hazards and their treatment, because of multiplicity of impurities and complexity of their chemical structures, is one of the most difficult and inconvenient industrial processes. As the most pulp and paper mill work on kraft process, there are few studies in literature on the treatment of neural sulfite semi chemical (NSSC) p...

Treatment of paper and pulp mill effluent by coagulation.

Pulp and paper mill effluent is highly polluting and is a subject of great environmental concern. In the present research we studied the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and colour from paper mill effluent, using the coagulation process. A batch coagulation study was conducted using various coagulants such as aluminium chloride (AlCl3), polyaluminium chloride (PAC) and copper sulphate (C...
